Once you have learned how to play a basic 12-bar blues progression, (and the taste for jazz hits you), it's time to try playing the jazz-blues format! The jazz-blues12-bar format is a fantastic way for rhythm guitar players to begin to develop their jazzy swing feel. This format also allows players to add several chord embellishments, that range from extensions to substitutions! As you get better, you can even add in altered chords too.

Ever notice how some days you play awesome and other days you suck! What determines the wild swing from some days to others? Is it your bio-rhythms? Your surroundings? Your daily life experiences? Maybe a mix of all of those elements, but one thing is for certain... experience combined with excellent preparation can make a big difference.

The Minor Blues scale has found it's way into almost every style of rock and roll, including the world of heavy metal. The lowered fifth degree found in the Blues Scale offers us an excellent sound when used in the Metal style. Whether it's included in Metal lead playing, or in rhythm guitar riffs, the notes of the Blues Scale add a very unique and interesting sound to Heavy Metal and Hard Rock.
